Hey there! Thanks for visiting my blog. My name is David Gibert and I would love to tell you a little bit about myself.

To start with, I am 18 years old and I was born in Austin, Texas. I have grown up just south of Austin, in Buda, Texas.  I just graduated from Hays High School and I’ve been blessed with two parents and my older sister, Sarah. I love being outdoors and playing sports of all kinds. My favorites are Spikeball, Basketball, Weightlifting and Disc Golf.

My parents have been great examples of what it looks like to follow Jesus which has had a great impact on my walk.  We have been going to the same church all of my life, and at the age of 9, I accepted Jesus Christ into my heart at a summer church camp. Although I was young, I knew exactly what that decision meant for my life. I continued to attend church a few times a week, and lived my life without much questioning of my faith. By the time I got to high school, I had gone through some really hard things that led me to doubt and question what I believed.

Although I was struggling inwardly, I was still trying to do all the right things and by the end of my Junior year I was asked to be the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) President for my senior year. I knew I was in no way qualified for the position, so I was left with having to make some changes in my life or decline the role. God began working on my heart and gave me a series of events to draw me back to Him.

My dad and I went on a trip called “Christ in the Rockies” where my dad shared some important truths with me about becoming a godly man. It was a powerful week and it gave me a lot to think about. Then I went to my summer camp with my best buddy, Matt, that we attend every summer. TBarM has some of the best godly role models and I always leave that camp with convictions. That summer I heard a scripture that really spoke to me, “You will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”. (Jeremiah 29:12-13).

It was a simple verse, but God was showing me that He was there for me and that my faith was real. I came back from camp ready to be a good leader because I was learning to be a good follower, a follower of Jesus.  I recommitting my life back to Christ that summer, trusting God to be my guide.

God matured me my senior year in many ways, and showed me something that helped me make my decision to go on this mission trip. As an FCA leader, I had several opportunities to share with my peers “Why Jesus?”.  I have to say, there is nothing more awesome than being able to offer hope to others. So when the conversation came up about taking a gap semester to do mission work, God led me to The World Race.

I’m so grateful that God has presented me with this amazing opportunity. There are so many people who are hurting physically, emotionally and spiritually. I want to be a part of making a difference in peoples lives and The World Race offers a way to help people around the world know that they are not forgotten.  I can’t wait to see how God uses me to do his work, and how He will use the  people around me to impact my life in a powerful way.

When I return from my mission trip, my plan is to attend college and pursue a degree in Engineering.

Thanks for taking the time to read a little about me and supporting me with your prayers and with any donation that the Lord lays on your heart. When you partner with me, you are providing the means so that we are both taking part in the great commission, to go and and make disciples of all nations. It is an opportunity to join me on a wild mission for God’s Kingdom so that together we can be His hands and feet in Central America.
